Orchids by the Bike Path

On the rare warm days here in what locals call “June-uary,” riding a bicycle is poetic and all my senses are sharp. I feel the warmth of the sun at long last on my back as I cycle along, inhaling the fragrance of the wild Nootka Rose along the bike path, watching the calm and clear Puget Sound settling down after spring storms and high tides, and tuning in to birdsong from migrating birds and resident songbirds. Then suddenly there is something stunning right beside the bike path... six Coralroot Orchid plants piercing the dark forest floor and reaching for rays of sunshine in the treetops!
