Red Seaweed

The red seaweeds, Rhodophyta, are spectacular here on the Olympic Peninsula. Some are soft and frilly like this Winged Rib (Delesseria decipiens) others symmetrical like ferns and feathers, and others slippery like noodles. My first year here I gathered red seaweeds and formed hearts on the beaches. Now I've become fascinated by their differences, and try to identify each species. It's a new way of showing my love.
