Hummingbirds of Ecuador

The variety of hummingbirds in Ecuador is so amazing, from the absurdly long Sword-billed Hummingbird to the extravagantly long tailed Black-tailed Trainbearer. The names are exciting just to read in the field guide. For example, in these photos you can see the Booted Racket-tail, the rare Velvet-purple Coronet, and the endemic Violet-throated Metaltail that only lives at 14,000 feet. Also one example of the wild fucchias that provide perfect nectar for these birds. Ecuador has 132 hummingbird species, and we saw 31!
