Before moving to Port Townsend, I was excited to see just one Merganser. Once I remember the thrill of seeing four. This winter over a hundred Red-breasted Mergansers regularly float by the shore of North Beach, all pointed in the same direction, and then float back the other way. They serenely gaze underwater as they float, seeking small fish for a feast.
